I don't know that color matters but it may be linked and indicate various strains. I know my badgers are much better producers and max out half again as large as any others I have had. My hairless are skinny and small, but I get more for them as pets. And my blues and himis are related to the hairless but a better middle of the road.
Sorry, haven't had the camera down in the dungeon lately.

Who cares? I care. I personally don't want to look at white mice or rats when I am replenishing their water, cleaning their cages, feeding them or anything. I mean white was the normal back in 1990 with underwear and they probably have a hundred colors now so which do you choose? Do you drive a white car or sleep on white bed sheets? These choices define who we are that's all, it's just cooler to watch a mouse grow into a solid black, brown or grey rather than white like the urates of snakes.

for myself, I find it easier to have multiple colors. That way I can tell them apart. I cycle breed where I introduce a female into the males cage for impregnation. I can control how many litters per week I have. With different color females, I can have several in a cage and still know the black hooded was bred three weeks ago and time to pull her out. Usually quite obvious but more important for the female that decides to quit being productive. I know who she is, can pull her and feed her off so as to NOT waste any more time/space/food on her!

I don't believe in nipping the ears or cutting the tails for i.d. but instead use the colors like you mentioned.
