One Step Closer! D/U Warning!

triniian Apr 03, 2007 10:22 PM

Today I made another large jump towards getting some frogs - I bought a fruit fly culture and kit.

I am going to get my "fly wings" down now before I buy my frogs. I am going to split the culture into 6 sets and if all is well in a week, I'm gonna get some tincs!

Anyhow, here is an update on the viv...

1st - I just recently came across a moss haven at the back corner of my house where there are lava rocks directly beneath rain water runoff. It's a dark corner and Lousiana is practically 1000% humidity every day. I put the "carpets" of moss throughout the tank and put some lava rocks directly onto the stream.

I do have a question... in the middle of the pic you see a white spot - it's some sort of fungus and I have a few of these sprouting around the wood. Any ideas on what it is? Is it bad?

I have a jewel orchid in bloom that sprouted this little sucker a few months ago - it was a very easy separation and into the viv it goes! I can't wait to see it in 6 months. Sorry for the crummy pic quality. Each leaf is barely 1 inch long.

Next up is the rescue orchid I am trying to revive. It's in pretty bad shape - definitely dormant. Hopefully a few weeks of humidity, fish water and nice light and we'll see some action. I cut the stalk as it was dead, but the root system is large and strong and still intact.

Here are some of my other "toys"

This past weekend I installed a R/O water filtration system myself. This is my 10 gal fish tank that I cycle my water for the vivs with. I'll be doing a full water change every week from the bottom of both vivs.

Next up are my enclosures for my Ball Pythons and Jungle Carpets. The JCPs are barely 6mnths and seem to love their enclosure (top) and the Balls are about 1 year and are doing very well in their 40 breeder. In about 6 months, I'll be moving the Balls into their bigger home.

Next on the list is my Brazlian Rainbow Boa Palace... this is 5X2X2 Showcase cage. It's gots tons of space and you'd sware there is nothing in there these dang Rainbows hide so well!

And lastly, another little experiment - it's been 4 weeks and my African Violet is still putting out flowers! It's not as full, but I'll see how long I can keep it in bloom.

Thanks for reading!

One more question... can anyone suggest the best way to go about getting a true pair of CB Tincs? Should I buy a group of 3 froglets and hope for the best? Any advice would be welcome.

Have a great evening!

The moss looks good. Did you sterilize it in any way? If not then you probably introduced all kinds of stuff to your tank! Its not always bad when new stuff pops up, but not always good either. I put some wild moss in mine that's doing ok so far. I soaked it in peroxide for about 10 minutes and rinsed it under the faucet, then rinsed again, and repeated for about 10 minutes. I still have weird stuff popping up though!

That weird stuff popping through may be something interesting. surprises and usually more fun than fatal.
