?? About Balls Inverting Their Body?

latin1956 Apr 03, 2007 10:25 PM

I have a pair of Ball Pythons that were sold to me as het for Albinos, and I am trying to prove them out. I never saw them lock up but I did see seminal fluid stains and small spots of blood on the paper towel. I cooled them down from Oct till end of Jan. A friend of mine was checking her out on March 3 and he asked me had she eaten and I said no to him it looked like she ate a very large rat. Her last meal was 2/26/07 .The female shed on 3/24/07 and she does look fat. Well my question is I saw her this morning totally inverted over the hot spot that I have set at 91F. Is this normal behaviour?? or could she go thru the whole process even if she did not breed with the male? I had them paired up on and off from Dec until the beggining of Fed. I hope to hear from you all. Thank you in advance. Sorry for the long post.

Thanks
Tom

Normal gravid behavior, yes.

Sounds to me like you have a preggo snake. Let us know when the eggs come!

Are you 0 sure they didnt lock up? Because it sounds to me like she is gravid and has already ovulated and went through her prelay shed if this is the case you should have eggs soon hope your prepared. Good luck on getthing those albinos.

Thank you guys for the positive responses! Am I sure they did not lock up? well I just never saw them locked up, but that is why I use paper towels so just in case I miss it then when they seperate they leave a stain and that is what I saw. LOL yes that is what I meant she was upside down. Yes I am prepared, I have the incubator ready since I have a clutch of 15 eggs from my Irian Jaya, that I got about a week and a half ago.

Thank you!!

I agree with Jenny on this and I would say her last shed was her post ovulation shed . But didn’t you mean upside down , as you said inverted then you would be able to see if she was gravid as she would be inside out . Like a male snakes hemipeans are inverted LOL. Good luck with her OK. Thanks David of DS Reptile Rescue

David you meant pre lay shed right ? not post ovulation shed...

JP Apr 04, 2007 09:10 AM

Around here, the post ovualtion shed and prelay shed is the same thing. I get an ovualtion, a few weeks later I get a shed, then about a month later I get the eggs. I always have used those terms interchangeably....

I read it in wrong context i thought it read pre ovulation shed. Its been a long week. Sorry about that, My snakes also ovulate then shed then lay

Thats what I figured, but wanted to check my terminology as well. I think which term to use also has alot to do with where you are in the process. If a snake has recently ovualted, then I'm looking for her "post ovulation shed". Once that happens, and about the time I'm expecting her to lay, I think back to that shed and call it the "pre-lay shed". Still, like I said before I think those terms are interchangeable.

You read it rong ,thought it said pre ovulation is that hwy you posted this (David you meant pre lay shed right ? not post ovulation shed...)first !!. thanks David
