annoying crix

sport72186 Apr 04, 2007 02:37 PM

I just picked up my first leo last week. She is 50 g and has been raised eating crickets. I have been feeding her crickets as well, but I hate it because I can't sleep at night. lol. What is the best way to ween her off crickets and onto something less annoying like mealies?

best thing to do is either ignore the crickets. it might be hard to do, but after a few days they do quieten down. i keep my crix in a draw, it drowns out some of the sand but not completely. if you wanna ween your leo off crix, leave a dish of mealies in with your leo, and feed him less and less crix (dont go from 10 to 0 in a week) and he'll be forced to eat mealies until you can pull him completely off crix. mine doesnt eat anything apart from waxworms (if i were you, i would just forget about waxies, they get addicted and will eat nothing else, and they make them obese, which obviously isnt healthy)

hope this helps

Nobody said it would all be pleasant Try putting them in another room with a door you can close. Personally I like the sound

I agree crix are the most annoying thing in the world. My leos eat mealies, but when i got my last male... he wouldn't eat them. I didn't feed him for about 4 or 5 days, then i started hand feeding mealies (because they squirm when pinched) The movement attracted him and he ate. I then put some more in the mealie dish and he at them too. Now he eats mealworms.

I hope this helps,

I personally would stick with the crix and then feed mealies as treats, but that's just me and i have 7 leos. Mealies have hard shells and can also have a risk of impacting your leo. They have the same amount of chitin in them as the crix so it's not better or worse for them. Liek asid before you could try and put them in another room or just getused to it. I buy the 1/4 inch crix in bulk if 2000 and thety don't have wings at all, they doo within a week. LOL You could also just sit there and pull off their wings.

It's a part of owning the herp. Sorry get used to it!

I ended up throwin the crix in my closet and shut the door. They are pretty muffled and I got a full nights sleep. Thanks for the help. I'll post pics soon..
