New hatchling... ill?

devilina Aug 13, 2003 10:44 AM

I bought a new hatchling from a shop yesterday. It has all these white spots on its head, limbs, & even on its tail & nose. It occasionally opens its mouth, as if it can't breathe thru' it nose cos of the white stuff there. I don't know if it has a disease. If it is indeed ill, what can I do to make the spots go away?

If it can't breathe well and has mucus on its nose, or swims lopsided, it likely has a respiratory infection. Raise the water temp a few degrees and get it to the vet asap. Turtles can very easily die from this. With it being a hatchling, it will be even more likely to die.

As for the white spots, they could be skin shedding...but you MUST get the turtle to the vet for the respiratory infection or you won't have a turtle at all to worry about the white spots.

You may be able to get the store to either pay for the expenses, or maybe help with them.
