Constipated!!

stuj Apr 04, 2007 05:12 PM

Hi everyone,

I have a female veiled chameleon about 1.5 years old. About 2 weeks ago I gave her some butter worms. It's her first time having them, and since then she hasn't defecated. I have never had problems with her being constipated before, she usually goes every other day. For the last week I have been watering her down a lot, completly wetting her just in case it's from dehydration. About 4-5 times a day I will spray her until the bottle is empty. She seems to be enjoying it and drinking while I spray. So its been about 2 weeks since I last saw fresh poop in the cage, and I'm starting to get worried. She is looking bloated as well. Should I just take her to the vet right away? Any help would be very appreciated.

Thanks

Try placing her in the shower, and let some nice lukewarm water spray on her for about 30 minutes. Mine will go everytime,
(works on almost all herps.) If she still doesn't go, there could be an impaction or something else going on. Try that first,
for some reason just spraying them in their cage doesn't get the same colon reaction, go figure.

Ok thanks, I will try doing that tomorrow. I'll take her out in her umbrella tree, but should I let the water actually hit her or just let her get the steam from the shower? I guess I should turn the shower to low pressure.

thanks again for the help

I usually just put my guys on the floor of the shower,
or something low to the ground like a milk crate,so they don't fall too far if they try to escape the spray.
The running around and trying to escape is part of what stimulates the bowels (exercise), along with the warm water all over their bodies.

Ok I gave her the shower this morning. 30 minutes in warm water, I kept the water spraying on her most of the time while she ran around the tub trying to escape. No Poop! I am really worried now, I guess the next step would be the vets?

thanks for the help
