Humidity chambers?

coluber Apr 04, 2007 05:40 PM

Hi guys
Just wanted to ask if you use 'humidity chambers' for your snakes?..I've put a large plastic tub with a hole in the top, half full of damp coconut fibre into my coachwhips viv..he uses it alright!!,but only as A TOILET!!!
...LOL!!

Humidity is overrated. If a snake is in the blue it MAY require extra humidity but if you do not keep the air moving with a fan you risk lung ailments. IF YOU HAVE HIGH HUMIDITY KEEP A EXAUST FAN IN THE ROOM. NEGATIVE PRESSURE IN THE ROOM MEANS FRESH HUMID AIR.

I live in a generally cool climate where the heating is on in the house 8-9 months of the year,so I thought it wise to provide a little humid area to assist shedding!!..as I said he uses it like a cat lit-tray...nothing else!!..LOL!!.
Aw well!!! its easy to clean/maintain the viv,as he has his special toilet!!
Thanks for the advice anyway Bill.

My coachwhip has just completed his first shed since I've owned him and he did use the humidity chamber to help...so I'll keep it in the vivarium.
