Caught this big male, one of his buddies, a yearling and a red coachwhip today in temecula (riverside county). This dude had some massive battle scars. Looked to me like he had been wrestling with the squirrles and lost some scales in the process. My brother took these pics on my phone so they aren't the best quality. The wine country here is an amazing place to go herping. You can find everything from kings to sd gophers like these to sonorans to rosy boas and ofcourse the occasional rattler.

Here's the coachwhip:

I've been wanting to get out there for some time now...
I'd be stoked to see a Sonoran.

Do you see many Sonorans there?

thanks.

Mostly Coachwhips and SD gophers but you can find sonorans. I've seen two myself and had a buddy tell me he's seen a few near lake skinner. The further east you go the more you're likely to find. They're out there tho.

Cool. I've been wanting to check out some new places to herp. It's been pretty dry out here ( Santa Susana/simi Foothills in Chatsworth, CA)as far as snakes are concerned.
