Chin rubs

kameron Aug 13, 2003 11:12 AM

How do you treat a chin rub? I have a female I recently acquired who lived in a glass aquarium the first four years of her life. I moved her into an outdoor wire enclosure, and she's developed a chin rub. She's eating and doing everything else okay, but it's kind of raw. Could I use something like liquid bandage on it? Or just leave it and watch it? What do you all do?

You might try something like Neosporin, but she won't be able to be on any type of particle substrate. Really, you need to treat the reason too.

The reason is she's not used to a wire cage and she climbs the wire. I've gone through this before, but because she's larger she's rubbed her chin. They eventually get used to the wire enclosure, and I think keeping them outside is better (more room, natural sun, etc.) I couldn't make the enclosures glass because they'd bake! They have ample perching in the enclosures, but they still like the wire...I thought about neosporin, or nolvasan ointment, but they are on sand, and it would be a b***h to break down the cages, but maybe I will, if it doesn't get better.

Maybe peroxide?
That may help it from getting infected and nothing would stick to it.
Quite the dilemna...
