Questions about weight

blowitch Apr 05, 2007 08:35 AM

There was a post down below about breeding weight on females, and it got me to thinking.

What is the highest weight you have gotten on a female by her first birthday by feeding simply 1 appropriate meal a week?

For myself, it is just over 1300 grams, and she is a mouse feeder.

1300grms in a year (52 wks)? Did you feed every 5 or 7 days?

Every 7, give or take. Depending on my schedule, sometimes I had to feed on day 6, sometimes day 8. Never off more than that. Also, I should add that she was about 100g when I bought her.

I think Fluffy was just shy of 4 feet and around 1400-1500ish grams on her first b-day. She was really lanky - no where near the fat reserves to breed that season not that I would have bred her at 1 year old anyway.

Yea, my girl is kind of lanky too. I debated breding her with my SK axanthic, but I decided it wasn't worth the risk. I am hoping for 2000 this fall and a nice clutch.

in one calender year I had a female go from 1400g post egg laying to just over 2200g post egg laying. That was feeding my appropriately sized meals every 5 days and the last clutch layed weighed just over 1000g. This female is about to drop another clutch of eggs any day now and was over 3400g before breeding season. size of clutches for the last 3 years was 7 for 05, 8 for 06 and I'm sure 9 or more this year as this is the largest she's been.

as far as a hatchling growth rate for me is up to 1800g in one year but I feed every 5 days and won't go any longer between feedings for the simple reason, bp's know when they are getting fat and quit eating. someone show me a bp that is obese and I'll start to listen to those that say feeding too often can cause them to get too fat and unhealthy.
