Thos of you that know me also know I lost my only breeder male last year. Well low and behold he is back home and recovering now. My wifeworks at the local hospitol and has od hours and she was getign ready to hop into the shower at 4am thismorning and found Prince in the track for the shower dore. He has a wound that looks to be several months old and is all healed already and looks like he has had a problem sheding as he has quite a bit of unshed skin from several sheds on his tail, He is very very skitish and iritable, I could hardly even grab him do to him being so agresive but my joy of finding him overrode my fear of getting bit LOL He has been missing so long that I deleted all of his husbandery records. I believe it was some time last far hi disapeared. What is odd is we have deconed the house several times for mice and clearly he has been eating well while he was out but I dont understand how the decon got rid of the mice but did not hurt the snake. Surly he ate some mice that also ate some decon, what are the odds?

wow, congrats on the find.
Just get him back on a regular feeding schedule and keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't show any signs of poisoning.
good luck and keep us posted.

Hey Jason!!
Glad to hear the news. We told ya he'd be back in spring! lol.
The snake probably brumated, then came out when it was warm. So, if he was eating, it was probably recently. Maybe even mice from outside the house. Snakes go where warmth and food is!
Again, congrats!

Thats good news!! I had a similar thing happen with my holbrooki I had in in the mid 1990's. He disappeared on me in one house and I found him 9 months later in our new house!! He must have been packed with everything else when we moved only to find him in the kitchen of the new home months later!!

That's great news you found him alive!!.

It's hard to say exactly how, but the bottom line is he did manage to survive somehow.

If you haven't already, I would STRONGLY recommend that you remove all the old shed from his tail area(and anywhere else) as this can "constrict" the blood-flow to the tail, and can literally cause it to die and fall off!!.....this is actually more common than some people think!
It's always a good idea to check the shed(and the snake) whenever possible after a shed, to make certain it comes off completely, especially the "eye-caps"(ocular lenses) and tail tip.

This is easily done by putting the snake in a container filled with a little tepid(slightly warm) water, or in a pillowcase filled with very moist spagnum moss with towels, or rough piece of concrete block so they can rub the rest off after several hours, or overnight.

Enjoy having your snake back! ~Doug
