Eating in the dark only...is this common

IndyRick Apr 05, 2007 01:23 PM

Hi all....

I love my new albino corn...I'm new to Corn Snakes, and have a question.

Mine eats F/T pinkies with no problem, but he will eat ONLY in the dark....I can't even have a room light on....but as soon as I turn the lights out, he goes after it.

Is this common? I'd like to WATCH him eat sometime!

Thanks,
Rick in Indianapolis

How long have you had the snake? I find it is fairly comon for newly aquiered snakes to prefer the dark. If you got it fairly recently then just give it time.

I've had it for a month now....it handles easy and is very docile, not shy at all....

A month seems long enough but give it some more time, Maybe with this particular indevidual its just what it prefers

Rick in Indianapolis -

This is very common and nothing to be worried about.

Corns are shy by nature, especially when young, and often feel more secure in the dark.

As your snake grows and feels more confident, it will lose its shyness, and you will be able to watch all sorts of interesting behavior, including eating.

For now, as long as its eating, just relax and go with the flow.

Cheers,
