Sterile Chameleons???

cbchameleons Apr 05, 2007 03:02 PM

Do any of you know of any medication, parasiticide, etc. that would cause a Chameleon to be rendered permanently sterile???

I have a friend with several female Ambilobe Panther Chameleons that continually cycle and lay infertile eggs, but they have been bred to several different males from completely unrelated bloodlines. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for reading/replying.

I don't know of meds that would cause sterility, but possibly there is a nutritional problem preventing them from producing viable eggs. Maybe the eggs are not being incubated correctly or for a long enough time? If the males are from too remote a locale or possibly a cross, that could also affect egg viability. Not all panther locales can interbreed, but I don't think we have all that figured out. I have not worked with panthers, so I'm not the best one to ask. Just some ideas.
