lovebox505 Apr 05, 2007 03:14 PM

I was just trying to find your photo album and I saw that you are a retired clinical lab coordinater, I just graduated with a Biology major and I am going back to school soon for my clinical year in Medical Technology - I'm very excited and thought it was cool you are in the same field =D

It was an interesting job for me. Are you considering a masters or one of the ASCP specialties, or is it too early to tell what field turns you on?

what is that exactly?

I'm not sure on a specialty yet, but I really like Micro and Blood banking, mostly because I like bugs and I like that these areas still have some aspects that require manual procedures, not everything is done by a machine.

Johny- The certification I am getting is so that I can do lab diagnostic work in a clinical lab - tesing blood, urine, tissues, etc.

If you like lab work this is definately a good choice. The pay is good (compared to other jobs you can get with just a Bio Bachelor's), its in demand right now and pretty much will always be, its healthcare, and you can do it anywhere in the country. I have worked for a engineering and testing company while in school and I had the option to get an environment health certification and have that as a career, but what I learn here is only applicapable to Florida...plus I hate the heat and can't do field work in the summer. And I hate to see the building going on here, its very depressing.

Also, a lot of people using it as a stepping stone and go into a masters program for either lab management, or other majors and go into research and some people go on to medical school.
