swollen leg spiny tail iguana

meeslither Apr 05, 2007 04:58 PM

I have a one year old extremely hyperactive spinytail iguana who started limping on his fore limb. Before long his limb began to swell from his elbow to his hand and has not improved in several weeks. Initially I was not concerned but he has become lethargic and he is only eating every other day. I considered splinting his leg but due to his small size and aggresive nature Im afraid any restraint would only lead to more injury. Can anyone make a suggestion or recommend a good reptile vet in the Philadelphia area?
Thanks
Jason

You can go to the association of reptile and amphibian veterinarians website www.arav.org and find find lists of members by state.

That's a good site, I recommend it as well.

This animal needs to see a vet for this problem, but many of these problems can be associated with subpar husbandry and/or diet. Double check your methods and/or research the needs of this species. Such will be necessary just as much as the repair of the leg.

My little guy is kept in above "par" conditions. High uvb mercury phosphate flourecents, varied diet, the works. I think he injured himself digging or maybe a fall.
Thanks again
