Egg Bound???

CBH Apr 05, 2007 06:39 PM

Hey all,

My female w. hog laid 1 egg Tuesday night. The eggs appears to be good, but she has not laid the rest. I palpated her and they all seem to be in good shape, all facing the right direction in a single file line. She was really active on Wednesday zooming around the enclosure. Today she has sat in the nest box all day today, but nothing.

Do you think she will lay the other eggs on her own or should I give her Oxytocin? Other ideas?

Thanks,

Chris

I have never known a hog(and i have a lot) get egg bound. I have friends that have had similar situations and the hogs always gets rid off the eggs. They often throw out any bad /infertile eggs prior to laying the good ones. How many days past final shed is she?

Personally if shes not distressed, i wouldnt panic.

I forgot to write down the date of her last shed but I would say 8-10 days /- a couple.

Thanks,

Chris
