another off feed topic ...sigh...

Luckily for me, the eggs my two wild caughts laid Feb 25th (I recieved the girls and about two weeks later ,surprise, ovulation) are due to hatch the soon. If all goes well they will be my first eggs/babies ever.

I have had ball pythons go off feed for REALLY long periods of time, but not after dropping huge clutches considering their body weight.

They are totally uninterested in food so i leave them totally alone apart from cleaning/fresh water.

To the point,
I was under the impression that most females resume feeding after they lay, especially if the enclosure is cleaned and the eggs are artificially incubated?

any similar experiences or comforting words heheh
I'll get pics of them up tomorrow.

well if you mean they were imported as wc's gravid then that is your reason for being off feed. wc adults often never feed in captivity and if that happens here, you just learned a valuable lesson, leave the wc animals in the wild.

i didnt take them out of the wild....

I've had successful experiences with w/c's when i was younger(didnt know better) and i figured why not try it.

Ball python importing is going to happen whether I bought the animals or not. So unless its hands across america to stop buying wc's in order to destroy the industry, I don't mind giving them a try.

Josh,

How many WC gravids have you had lay and never eat?

95 percent of the wc gravids will eat a few months after laying.... and eat well I might add.

Keep em dark, use some cypress mulch with a nice tight hid and feed small food items late at night. GIVE HER SOME PRIVACY AND DONT TOUCH HER UNTIL SHE EATS A FEW MEALS.

yea i'll never just give up on them...thats for sure.

A bit of an epiphany: (if the females were allowed to incubate their eggs...they wouldn't be expected to start eating until after teh 15th of april.)

When that time comes and goes...I guess it will be vet time.

Try giving them a very tiny (one they can barely fit into) hide box, feed just before lights out with something alive and smaller than they would normally be fed. Check back in a couple of hours and take out the prey animal if not eaten. Try different prey items (gerbils, hamsters, mice, rats and if you can find them the African soft-furred rats). I know everybody is going to scream about leaving something live with them without watching, but I have done this about a dozen times without injury to the WC ball python and have had 11 out of 12 eat eventually. Good luck!
