day-old chicks are fine

Question: Is there any real dif between the quail and chicks at rodentpro?

Day old chicks appear quite abit larger than quail of the same age(1 oz. chicks vs approx .25 oz Q), but they are also alot cheaper.($34 for 100 day-old quail vs. $25 for 100 day old chicks)

Are the quail "better" in any way, or just harder to produce than baby chickens?

quail are much smaller and they likely cost more to produce or have a lower output (???). day old chicks are often 25 cents per animal.

I'm taking a stab in the dark here...

I think feeding chicx or chicken meat is not such a good idea with regards to the fact that the chickens can carry salmonella(spelling?)

DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT quote me on this

its probably fine just someting to think about.

Salmonella occurs naturally in some lizard species, not sure about monitors. It's one of the reasons one should wash up after handling them. Also, it's most likely to appear in processed meat than live prey items. I would think chicks would be fine. JMHO

yea, it's not too big of a prob so long as you wash your hands after you handle/clean/etc., especially that reptiles are known to carry salmonella anyway.

I just figured why bother if mice or rats have been working perfectly fine ya know. Hope this helps and gl

Chicken meat on the other hand is an incomplete diet. Whole animals, think whole animals.
My monitors have always done just fine on lots of peeps, and some larger chickens.
