bad eggs?

aquakej Aug 13, 2003 12:31 PM

Hello,

I was wondering how quickly one needs to move the newly-laid eggs from the laying box to the incubator. I was away for a week, and I found four eggs when I came home. Could they still hatch? They didn't dry out and they are fertile.
Also, how do you tell when an egg has gone bad in the incubator? I think some of my eggs might have gotten too moist, and I noticed a slight smell to them. They don't really look too different, but I noticed a bit of white chalky residue on the outside of one of the eggs. Could this be a fungus?
Thank you for any information!
~Katie

eggs should be removed as soon as possible. I found a egg i had no idea how long it been there. could been up to a week. one egg was good and one was dried up. i incubated and a Jungle Albino hatched out so keep youre finger crossed. The white fuzz would be fungus, could be to damp of subsrtate and not mean its a bad egg yet. clean it off and u can use a little athlete foot powder sparingly on the egg and keep a eye on it.

If they didn't dry out and look fertile, then yes they can definately still hatch. Just move them as little as possible, and be sure to place them in the incubator in the same position as you found them (meaning don't roll them over or anything).
