California kingsnake Pregnant.

garyzdaman Apr 06, 2007 08:46 PM

My California kingsnake has been pregnant for about three weeks now and is showing and hasn't eaten for the last two weeks. Is this normal? What should I do? She has been well fed before and after brumation but seemed to have stopped eating now that she is pregnant. I need advice.

They usually will stop eating at some point after they become gravid nothing to worry about.

They will sometimes take smaller prey though.

It only takes 30 days from conception for your "gravid" cal king to lay. She will shed and approximatly 10 days after she sheds she will lay. Thats when you want to have a nesting box with some damp spagnum moss in the cage. She will get real restless moving about the cage looking for a suitable nesting spot. Thats all normal.

After she lays wait a day before feeding. Most will not be interested in food right after they lay. She will look real thin but will fatten up after a few meals. Ihighly recommend you feed her as many times and as much as she will eat after she lays. You don't want to go on a once a week feeding plan after laying.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm just worried since she has eaten since she has mated she won't have enough nutrients for the eggs to form properly.

The eggs will be just fine.
