What did I find? (DUW)

j3nnay Apr 06, 2007 10:11 PM

I was perusing my favorite local reptile store when I came across this guy. Apparently someone gave up their whole collection. He's not in the best health, having some yucky stomach rot and such. I've soaked him and then set him up in a tub for a while to settle in, but I took a couple shots first.

My question is...is he anything special? Some kind of morph or a pretty normal? He caught my eye from the very back corner of the cage and I just couldn't say no!

Anyway, without further ado, "Butters" the ball python.

To me he seems considerably lighter than a light normal ball python, and the amount of blushing is just gorgeous. I can't wait to see what he looks like healthy.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks! That's actually what attracted me to him in the first place. Saw him in the very back corner hiding under a log except for his head.

Thank you! I'm already absolutely in love with him. He's inquisitive and sweet even with the belly rot. Here's hopin he starts eating the first time I offer a rat to him!

Thanks again!

I love the light color! Too bad we don't live closer or else I'd like to see him hook with Roxy!

You know you are somehow famous now, lol, b/c you had the first clutch this season, right?

I know *I* was quite envious, :P but I wonder how many other CA pepes wish they had babies already.

Did you get rid of that chupacabra yet? I'll send you some chickN eggs to hatch!!

j3nnay Apr 07, 2007 09:06 AM

Hehe. I did luck out with my babies My snakes made the decision for me!

That darn chupacabra is still hanging around, unfortunately. Family's trying to figure out how to critter proof a chicken coop, but seeing as how coop forts 1, 2, and 3 have all been infiltrated...I think the critters are winning...

He is nice looking - but before you get too excited be forewarned that stress, sickness, injury, malnutrition, etc. in cases like this often times lends to the "ghostly" appearance. In most cases that I have seen with a little TLC the animal returns to "normal" appearance.

But you never know. Good luck with him - I'm glad he's found someone to take care of him!

I'll keep that in mind, thanks Tosha. I'm hoping some of that pink on his tummy is actually the starting of a shed cycle.
I'm not sure he'd lose that look he's got - it didn't come through in the pictures as well as I'd hoped but he's silvery too. I guess we'll see when I get him all patched up and healthy again!

Thanks again!

I'm glad that you have said this - kind of made a lightbulb go off for me. I have had 2 bp's come in with the insane ghostly color, and lost it after they became healthy. I couldn't understand it, and I was slightly upset that they lost that amazing color!! But now I see that it was because they were sick and malnourished. I have yet another with this color, and Im sure he too will turn around. I know not to get excited anymore when I find this kind of bp. Thanks!

Hi Jenny !! Grate find it sorta looks like a concrete blond ?! And for the belly rot mix some Triple Antibiotic ointment with some Equate brand athlete’s foot cream from Wal-Mart 1-1 ratio and apply daily and it won’t sped any feather and will clear it up quickly . Thanks David of DS Reptile Rescue

j3nnay Apr 07, 2007 09:11 AM

Thanks David! I'll give that a shot

By the way, I tried the athlete's foot cream on the turtles at the petstore when I was still there, and it worked! Unfortunately, due to the drama that went on before I left, no one would even give the cream a chance so the turtles all have neck sores again. SIGH!
Just wanted to let you know that it worked, though!

Butters thanks you for the compliments! :D

Aw, too bad it is a "he". I have loads of normal females that I picked up because I loved their looks, but I won't allow myself to do that with normal males anymore! I had to sell all but one of my normal males to make room for this years babies. I only kept the one as he is a knock out! I use him for my classroom too!

My one normal male:

My blusher girls:

Good luck with getting him healthy!
