Aye, Leo help?

AesopPop Apr 07, 2007 02:48 AM

It seems as if the Leopard Gecko I have purchased roughly two days ago isn't eating "correct" amounts of food. I have thrown about 5 crickets in his tank, as well as several mealworms. It appears over the course of these two days he's eaten one of the crickets and a few of the mealworms (As I spot in there right now I don't seem to see any). However I was wondering if perhaps the mealworms were a better choice or if the crickets are better? I'm also afraid that he doesn't know where/ how to access his water bowl as he hides under his hiding rock all day. I imagine a good part of it is because he is still scared of being moved into a new home. One more thing, the only light I have on him is a ESU Reptile "SlimLine" is this ok?

Please help Rasputin and I.
Thank you,
Evgeiny

This should probably be posted on the Gex forum but the fast answer is....what are his temps? If he literally is only got a Slimline he is not warm enough. I would aim for a hot spot of 90 and cooling down to 75 at the cool end of the enclosure. Temps where the animal is sitting, not some vague ambient. That and since Leos are nocturnal they don't need the UV anyway. Correct temps and food dusted with calcium with vitamin D is the two things I would aim for.
Personally I don't like mealworms as a steady diet and would rather see crickets as a regular food as they seem better protien and more digestible.
