Using Salt and Chemicals in turtle tanks

AshRile Apr 07, 2007 07:16 AM

I have a 210 gallon turle tank.
It has 2 spot lights for basking, 2 6' uv lights, I run 2 fluval 4plus submersible filters and 2 corner air bubbler filters on it.
This time of year i tend to keep it a little heavier stocked then durring the winter. Daily water changes are done on it. Someone told me to use aquairum salt in it along with a water conditioner. Any ideas or comments on if this is true or if you have any ideas as to what i can add.I want to keep them happy and healthy till i get them homes.

Salt that's specifically for aquariums is great to use in turtle tanks. It works as a protectant, kind of like a fish's slime coat.

The only thing I question is, you really do a water change everyday? It seems with the filtration you have that once a week would be the most you would need to do. How many turtles do you have in there?

Have any pics?

This time of year it is overstocked till it gets warm enough for them to go out in a aquatic garden kio pond.I am new to postings so as soon as figure out how to upload a pic i wil.

12. Wow. I guess maybe you do have to do water changes that frequently.

Yes I do Have to do them that often only way i can keep amonia, nitrite and nitrate levels down. They all look good but I heard adding salt would be benefitial to them too.
