Health Question - please answer!

My new retic has been home for a week now, and she seems to make wheezing sounds when she's cruising around out of the cage. It's a very dry sound - like a chew toy whistle almost. Otherwise she seems perfectly healthy. She's fed twice now, no problems. Temps and humidity in cage are good. 80-92 deg. 65% humidity. Big water dish... though she hasnt used it yet to my knowledge.

So is it a normal sound? Does anybody else's snake do this? If not normal, what could it be?

From the sound of it it's a normal noise. Retics and Burms above 8 foot seem to make this wheezing noise. Snakes that large have large lungs so when they exhale it takes a while hence the wheezing sound.

Given your humidity level and having a large water bowl it won't be from a dryness issue. Usually if a Retic is to dry the wheeze has more of a hacking noise to it and is sometimes accompanied by a cough.

Good luck!

Thank ya - the Vivarium from where I acquired the snake said the same thing. She's only 4.5', but she was pretty close to my head. I wouldn't be surprised if my false water cobras do the same, but for some reason, I just don't let them get that close to my face. lol.
