gecko help

jimsters316 Apr 07, 2007 01:42 PM

hi,

My bro has had his gecko for about a year but recently he has stopped eating and has now turned a a very pinky colour. He also lost the tip of histail the other day, altough i think he might have been startled by my niece, would this have caused this? I am thinking of bringing him up to my own gecko to see if he will start eating once he sees her..

I am just wondering if you guys had any advise on this.. Is the not eatting normal? Will his tail grow back? Is it advisable to house a male and female together, will the breed? Or should i keep him separate until he back eating and looking healthier??
Sorry for all the questions, but i kinda new to this myself and our vets are no use.

Thanks for any adise in advance

Jim

I would NOT PUT HIM WITH A FEMALE I repeat NOT. That will stress him and her out because he has to get used to a new enclosure and surroundings. And Ofcourse his tail will grow back but it will be very stressful on him so I would try not to disturb him as much. Good Luck

It could be the temperature get a thermostat or temp-gun so you can constantly monitor the temps.

Do you know how long it's been since he's eaten? What are the substrate and temps? Is he pooping?

Its been about a month maybe two. By the substrate so you mean the floor of the tank. If so its paper..

Been about a month since he ate? Not good not good. What are you feeding? what are your temps? What are you using as lighting and heating sources? How long have you had him?

Do not put them toghether, don't even put them in the same room where they can see eachother. It will stress them as well.

He was eating crickets.. when he stopped i tried him the meal worms, is that what you call them but still nothing.. Dont know what the temp is, but i have a heat mat and heat lamp too that use. Thanks for the tip on not having them in the same room.

Well you will need to get a temp gun or digital probe thermoemter to measure those temps. If to hot you could be cooking the leo. If you have a UTH and a RED BULB, it should be ok but if you have s regular heat lamp 9 outta 10 it's too hot. SHould only be 85-90 at most on the hot side. Yes mealies that is what they are.
