There are a few BHP breeders here in Florida. I have several clutches in the incubator now. Looking at another 45-60 days until hatching. Although, I can't say that you'll find one for less then what you saw.
What pet shop did you see an adult for sale?
Cheers.

Incredible Pets in Melbourne, FL. Its a very well known store as it as a lot of very exotic stuff. Its where i purchases my rainbow boas and my Guyana Redtail. The one they have there came from a breeding project from I think the sand iago zoo, the owner got it after they decided they could let go of a male.

So then even the sub-adults still go for around 2 grand each? thats a bummer to hear, I certainly cant afford that with college etc still occupying my time and money.

Thanks for the reply.

Bah! oh well they are awesome snakes and i'd love to have one. Perhaps in a few years when i am out of college. Or maybe i should keep trying to strike a deal with the pet store, its been there for a while perhsps they are willing to be more flexible. . .

How big was the animal and how did it compare to this guy?

Or these?

Well it was labeled an "Australian Black Headed Python"

It was certainly over 6' long, prolly about 7-8' It seemed less white then the one in the picture you showed me.

I take it your interested in this snake now? I am good friends with the Manager of the Reptile department if you want more info about it. I assume its a proven breeder.

Not so much interested in that snake but, what else might be in that area. I don't know of many guys up in there with BHP's.
Might want to pick the owners brain just a bit about where it came from, etc.....
If it's just an "average" BHP, I wouldn't even persue it any farther to be honest. But, it doesn't hurt to look.
You never know what you find!!!
Cheers.

Were abouts are you located? you say "up there" so i assume your in the miami/ft lauterdale area. The store only has 1 i know of like i sad it came from a zoo in California. Honestly its a beautiful snake and one i would like to own. You mention average vs something special are there morphs or color changes in these snakes? I know little about them.

I'm in north Broward area. Ft Lauderdale.
Yes, there are couple of "morphs" but they aren't readily available yet... as they just showed up in recent years.
It basicially comes down to...
Is it a "clean" animal?
Nice clean banded animals are what is going to drive the BHP market. Whether it's a "red", "Black-n-white" etc.... isn't going to matter as much in the future as "how clean and vividly banded" the animal is.
There are a few breeders that you may want to take a look at. Matt Turner www.selectiveorigins.com
Jim Sargent www.splitrockreptiles.com
These guys are the ones who have taken "privite breeding" of BHP's to the next level.
And (with luck provided) I'll have some slammin' babies this year.
Also a friend of mine down here named Tom Keogen.... He post on here regularly.... has some very nice animals as well.
Good luck on your search.

I forgot to say that the BHP's personality is UNMATCHED in the python family. They are VERY rewarding snakes to keep and share time with.
Cheers.

It is an average Blackhead at best. Chances are it's retired breeder, and just an expensive display animal. I don't know the history of the animal, but I know how the game works down there and it is what it is, nothing less, nothing more

Russ:

If you're looking for a real nice line of Blackhead Pythons call Mike and Isis Madec at Isis Reptiles based out of Ventura Ca. Mike has been working with Blackheads for some time now and has a real nice line. You might have to pay top $ for his snakes, but isn't it all about qaulity.

Good luck

Brian
