For those that like Pantherophis....

KJUN Apr 08, 2007 02:49 PM

For those that jumped on the Pantherophis bandwagon too soon, ready to kiss it bye? The new paper by Burbrink Lawson (2007) just groups all New World Lampropeltini into "Pituophis." Of course, the paper is by Burbrink who has a phenomenal record for NEVER getting anything correct, so take it at face value. Those that jump on the "new hypothesis" band wagon before confirmation with further scientific studies make me chuckle.....

Humorously yours. By the way, the publication is real.

Not sure what you mean, but what I find funny is that people confuse a hypothesis of relationship with a definitive nomenclature name change.....and get upset when things, that were never really changed, don't stay the same. Humor - if we can't laugh at something, the day is prety bleak, isn't it?

OMG - He's at it again!!!

By the time Burbink is done he will have reclassified every species in North America. Think he'll group the Pituophis with Crotalus next?

Reminds me of the fued between Cope and Marsh to see who could name the most dinosaurs first. Wholesale naming is why there is an International Taxonomic Commision - which has not invaidated Elaphe obsoletta!!!

Doing great. I'm very pleased. Graham happily picked up his last night. I'm just about to feed mine again.

Email me if you want a copy of the paper. I don't have the URL handy, but I do =have the file still saved.
