Hey Everyone,
Would the new animal plastics rack work for breeding blood pythons? The tubs measure 52"L X 20"W X 12"T it's 5 levels high.
Just a thought?
Thanks in advance

Yup, sounds like more than enough room, even for a couple of big animals.

Nick, I have a few of the racks and plan on getting a lot more. I used all T-10s from A.P., but as you get more and more bloods and shorttails you need to find ways to make your life a little easier. For me the VE-175 rack is the answer. Later Ryan

Hey Ryan,
Your racks look great. Thanks for the info. I guess I will be investing in some of those soon. The Freedom Breeder thing isnt working for me.
Thanks
Nick
Ryan, do you use those for adults? I dig the logo on it!!!
Yes I sure do all my adults are in them even my 7' reds. All my bloods and shorttails are in racks all the way from babies to adults. They do very well in the VE-175s. Ryan

Who makes the VE-175 and what are the dimensions of the tubs?

"Can't you just feed it vegetables"? No, no I can't you stupid hippie.
They are actually Christmas tree boxes made by Iris. You can get them around the holidays at any store that sells fake trees, or year round at reptiletubs.com. I use them for some of my adult bloods and subadult retics and love them too.
First, let me say I do not have any affiliation with either of these companies. These are just observations and opinions. I really like the VE175; as it is the largest, clearest "sweater box" available to the public.

The above rack is a solid, stronger 1/2" plastic(Polyethylene). It is a more expensive plastic. It does not bend as easily when heat is applied. The lip does not protrude from the sides of the rack(stronger front-end?). Like Habitat Systems, higher quality materials will cost you(only negative about these).

The above rack is a foam core 1/2" plastic(expanded PVC). It is a more affordable plastic. It is meant to bend when heated(thermoformed). The only negative about this rack is the protruding lip(my main reason for posting this comparison). It seems like the length of the box when pulled out would put alot of pressure on the front lip.
If it were not for this lip, both racks would be equally appealing. I understand that the reason for this is that the side of the AP rack is one full sheet of 4' wide material(allowing for more boxes stacked upwards) and that the HE rack is only 3 boxes high due to laying the 4' wide material from top to bottom.
Just felt like making a comparison. It is still cheaper to just stack the VE175s on top of each other
, but then you have to unstack them to access any of the bottom boxes
.
Do you have any VE175 boxes on hand? If so, could you measure the actual floor area for me? I know with the sloping sides and heavy rim around the top of these boxes the floor area ends up being quite a bit less.
Also, are you the guy who used to keep Gonyosoma janseni? Do you still keep them?
Thanks.

Hey Everyone,
Does anyone have experience breeding in this tub? I think I am going to buy a rack next week.
Thanks
-Nick
Nick, I used them all this year for the bloods and had many pairs in tubs. I saw the same amount of copulation as I did the year before. Now the females are laying eggs right on track. Their was a concern on the front of the selves being weak or bowing, just to let you know I have had no problems with them what so ever. The VE 175 tub inside on the bottom is exactly 48" X 17". I used hide boxes before in the T-10s which took a lot of room out of the cage, now I don’t need them as they can get clear in the back where it is just as dark if not more so. The tub may be 5" narrower, but with out a hide box in the tubs you have more useable floor space. Hope this helps. Ryan The Blood Cell

Thanks Ryan,
Can you shoot me an email at NickRB223@aol.com if you get a chance?
Thanks
