If you had a choice of any phase to breed, what would it be?

jenny in va Aug 13, 2003 01:54 PM

I have been breeding beardies for a few years now, but I'm interested in trying my hand at leos. I've been researching the care and handling, all of which is no problem for me, but I'm wondering if there's any one phase that would be better than another, like which would be more sought after if I breed them. Money at this point is only a secondary consideration, as I've had much success with my beardies and have my funds set aside to start this project.

Any opinions for this newbie are welcome.

My personal absolute favorite is the red stripe project... I've actually sold off all my tangerines and carrot tails to work on red stripes and red stripe albinos.

The pic is of the red stripe male and the link is of the cornerstone female for my albino red stripe project.

I would say that the only morph more rare than red stripes are blazzing blizzards due to the genetic incompatibilities.

I took this picture in indoor lighting with a flash... so the colors are not quite as nice.

I still think he looks good though =)

Honestly... this male is priceless to me right now, he truly is one of a kind.

Next season there will be red stripes of all qualities for sale, as I'm crossing him into tons of different females and many different strains of stripes, along with some albinos. I would expect pricing to be $200-$800 (top quality males will be the most expensive).

Hi Ross,
Just curious about your red stripes. Did you by any chance purchase them from Matt & Susan at High Quality Reptiles.
If you did man you're lucky. They have a long waiting list to be able get some. I think they have some of the nicest animals around. I've purchased 2 males and 1 female hypo tang from them, they are great people to do business with.
Thanks,

Jason

I got the male from them in '02 and I'm buying some females from them as we speak.

I also have to say they are great people to deal with, Matt and I chat quite a bit.

I just wish they were in the USA! Preferably in TX with me, lol.

I honestly think red stripes are the most beautiful morph of leopards, hands down, can't wait to see what the albino crosses look like!

Next season I'll be breeding quite a few killer red stripe "hets" that I produced this year back to the original male. I'll also be crossing other lines of stripe with him. I'll also be throwing some albinos in with that male, including the one pictured. And last but not least I'm going to throw a group of HQ's F5 females into the mix.

Fun fun fun fun fun
