My gecko - is he dying or what?

Lithp Apr 08, 2007 10:42 PM

I recently moved [about 7 weeks ago or so] and had to bring my 6 month old leopard gecko for the 5 hour car ride. Now... Before I left I saw he was beginning to shed his skin on his face which was fine, normal, whatever. Well he [after having arrived at my new place] was starting to have a hard time shedding and half the skin on his face remained. I let it be and then after a couple days started trying to make it as moist and humid as humanly possible in order for the skin to loosen and come off on it's own...which it didn't. It stayed there for about a week when finally I spoke to a guy at the local hobby shop. He told me that geckos don't eat while they shed, and I'd noticed he hadn't eaten in about a week or so. He said it would be fine to pull the skin off so I did.

The surface of his skin was always relatively smooth but now it's covered in little goose-bump like things, which I swear I read somewhere is really really bad. His tail is getting skinnier and skinnier and I really just don't like the look of him. I know I should probably get him to a vet but at the moment I have next to literally no money and the nearest vets office is about 2 hours away.

Is there anything I can do myself to help get him through this? Does anyone know what is going on? Sorry if it's a little jumbled, I can try and explain it better if needed.

Thanks in advance for any help and advice.
