new babies arrived today

seth Aug 13, 2003 02:15 PM

i ordered a trio of d. leucomelas from black jungle and they arrived today. They all appear healthy and have even taken food already. My question is they are currently in a plastic shoe box i have had my 20l tank set up for about a month and was wondering if they could be placed in the 20 or should be left in the shoe box. They are about the size of a fingernail now so i was hesitant about placing them in sucha big enclosure where it would be harder for them to find food.

Thanks,
Seth

Seth, leave them in the shoe box for a while, checking them frequently for fouled water, sufficient food and cover, and temp/humidity. Once theyve gotten some size on them and youre sure theyre doing okay, then transfer them. They may get lost or not be able to find food in the bigger tank. Id give them at least a month.

i agree, when they are that small i feel that they should be kept in a enclosure were you can keep an eye on them.

Seth,
I would keep them in the shoebox for awhile. I had 4 bicolors and jumped the gun by putting them into the 29g tank for them and one found a tiny crack and escaped.I found it dried up in a corner so they went back into the shoebox until they were about 1" and now the 3 I have are doing great
