combining White's Tree Frogs turtles

laurawtfrog Apr 09, 2007 09:56 AM

I know combining different species is frowned upon, but I would like to create a viquarium in at least a 30 tall. I have two year old red-eared sliders, and 3 ~5 year old white's tree frogs.

I am thinking of combining their tanks with 3/4 water in the bottom, 1/4 rocks-mulch-moss substrate and lots of arboreal areas for the frogs.

Does anyone think this is a terrible/dangerous idea? The turtles are very shy, and I am not worried about any nibbling especially because the frogs are very active.

Any input would be helpful.

Thanks!

I have a communal tank with a musk turtle, two eastern painted, and about a dozen common gray tree frogs. Never had a problem, but there always is that chance. I have the advantage of them all being from the same native area. Since yours are from totally different parts of the world, I dunno. me personally, I say go for it, but just remember to give a large land area incase the frogs want to come down, give them a separate water dish to soak, and most importantly remember that you may come home to some very happy turtles and no more frogs. Let me know what you decide. Is it posable to show pics? Also, what are you feeding the frogs? Crix? If so, be prepared for to clean many dead ones out of the water, as you turtles may not eat them as they drown.

Thanks for your reply. I do think I will go for it, I just hope that the White's wont get stressed and release any chemicals that would hurt the turtles (I dont know if they can). I will put in a separate water dish, great idea! I hand feed the crickets, so that shouldnt be too much of an issue. Will post picts when I get the tank set up.
