hi....i have a question about thayeri.i have a gbk for three years now and im getting ready to add a thayeri to my collection.i have read that care for these snakes is basically the same since they are in the same family.is thayeri a hard snake to get started feeding like the gbk.mine was real hard,had to scent the pinkies with anole for months before he started just taking them.even now,he can be finicky.are the eating habits the same? thanks for any info

I have one thayeri, and when I got her she was feeding well on live pinky's. Occasionally she would seem to be frightened of a larger pinky, but would eat it within a few minutes. I switched her over to frozen thawed pinky's a couple of months ago and she eagerly eats them. In fact, she eats f/t pinkys better than live. Never a problem...never had to scent them, or even wiggle the pinky with tongs. I just throw it in to her feeding container and she eats it immediately. That being said, that is my experience with one thayeri...many breeders on this site will be able to give you a better idea of what to expect from most thayeri.

I only have one thayeri as well, but she has never had a problem eating either (switched from live to frozen the first time I fed her). She is also my first (and so far only) snake, and the fact that they are good eaters was one reason why I chose to get one of them as a beginner. I'm pretty sure that its rare for them to ever be problematic about eating. Good luck with yours when you get one
