probe placement

theandrew Apr 09, 2007 05:52 PM

my boaphile rack came today

its all set up and heating up, I just have a question about where to put the probe for the most accurate reading. Im using a helix dbs with flexwatt belly heat. The rack is a 6 tub blanket box.

any input is appreciated.

my best guess would be in the middle of the rack on the back or side. best thing to do is contact them direct. good luck.

In the back of the Boaphile rack there should be a small opening where the cord for the flexwatt comes out, insert the probe there. It will rest right on top of the flexwatt.
Get a separate thermometer and put it in one of the bins on top of where the heat is located. Your thermostat should need to be set slightly higher than the temps you want because of the air barrier between the bin and the heat. For example to get a 90 hot spot in my boaphile racks for my boas I need to set my Helix DBS-1000 to 93 for my room temps.

Chris is right. Put the probe where the hot spot is, this will let you have conrol over the hottest spot and the thermal gradient will drop towards the cool side , naturally, from there. Otherwise, you risk having a hot spot that is too cold.

The snake will find the area where it is comfortable laying in.

Good luck.
