I can see why you like the ratios!

I hope that one Supper pulls through! I am no expert so I will wait for those with more experience to give advice.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Congratulations Adam, fantastic ratio on the litter. 3 SUPER MOTLEYS is an outstanding result.

Hopefully some Motley breeders will have some advice for you on the preemie.

Man I want one of those!

STUART Apr 09, 2007 07:12 PM

The super with the yolk doesnt have too much, Im guessing it will gone by tomorrow. Just dont mess with it. It will all be absorbed. Ive had worse than that. Congrats I would love to have some super motleys 3s perfect! A keeper pair and one to sell

Here is an updated pic of the sac..getting smaller already. Im trying really hard not too worry...

STUART Apr 09, 2007 10:46 PM

at how fast they can absorb the yolk. I would not go to extremes like tying and cutting with a yolk sac that small. Just would make for more work and stress the snake out, risking all sorts of stuff for nothing really. It will be gone tomorrow if it isn't already. The snake will shed out the umbilical cord no problems dont cut it you can risk bleeding the snake to death if your not sure what you are doing. AGAIN "SUPER" congrats.

we would give ours 24 hours in a deli cup in a warm area, then we would tie off the sack about 1/2 in to an inch from the belly with unflavored dental floss and then cut the sack on the no boa side. Watch it over the next few days because you want to make sure the umbilical cord falls off and that the floss does not get pulled into the body cavity...we learned that from Rich and Tracy's boa video...works every time.

I have used that same technique on premature reticulated pythons with success as well. I am sure even though you did not mention, you kept the neonate warm as well as moist/wet in the deli cup. I also nearly lost the floss the way you stated, moved faster than I thought it would!!!! That technique saved a few here and there more than once for me. Never bred boas yet though, just wanted to mention it works for egg layers as well.

yes...the moist paper towel is as important as keeping the neo warm....had no idea about the pythons though, that is cool!

...supers and the normal motleys, too! Nice odds on the small litter!

vcaruso15 Apr 09, 2007 09:43 PM

Those are perfect odds!!!! Congrats on that litter small, but sweet. Three Super Motleys and six Motleys good stuff. Congrats again Vinnie

Congratulations Adam! Those are some really nice Motleys and Supers. Chris is right on the deli cup. When we get a baby like that we will dip the deli cup into a mild virosan solution and very carefully scoop the baby into the cup while the cup is sideways. Start with the goop and tail first and use your hand dipped in the solution. Keep the deli cup in the sweater box with the babies. Sometimes the baby will climb out when it feels its ready. We wont tie it until the next day, after its had 24 hours to soak. Plain dental floss is perfect with an inch of excess on each end.

The first 24 hours for a baby boa is the most critical. He/she will either join the litter huddle in a couple days or hang off on its own and you will know its not feeling great. But, that Super Motley looks like it has a really good chance in my opinion.

Good luck Adam and Congrats again!
