Pics of live intestinal parasite & egg. Hookworm?

PiedPeddler Aug 13, 2003 02:57 PM

I recently discovered my Egyptian uromastyx and a newly acquired leopard tortoises had parasite eggs in fecal floats. You guys helped me identify what was not a parasite. This is!!! I got a fresh smear from one of my own captive bred and raised African fire skinks and found this worm (about 1.5mm long)note the spike on it's tail. Either these guys got parasites from eating sowbugs from our compost pile (an occasional treat and a natural food for leaf-litter dwellers) or cross-contamination (uromastyx to my hands to their food). Also included is picture of egg from float of same sample. Panacur for these guys too?

I've searched the internet and only been able to find pictures of pinworms, tapeworms, hookworms, etc. that infect humans, livestock, or dogs and cats. They just don't look the same as what I find in reptiles. I really appreciate your replies and advice! Thanks again.

There is a laminated color guide to herp parasites by Dr Klingenberg. I think I bought mine off of beanfarm.com. That would be your best shot.
