A simple and effective mite control is olive oil. Take a couple of paper towels, coat one with olive oil, the other is dry with no olive oil. Let the snake crawl through the coated towel, making sure its entire body has been lightly covered with olive oil. Then let the snake crawl through the clean paper towel. The oil kills the mites but does no harm to your animal. Repeat every 6 to 10 days or so and keep cleaning the cages until all signs of mites are gone. No toxins and readliy available. Worked for me and is cheap and easy.
