How do YOU treat for parasites?

Kingofspades Apr 09, 2007 11:00 PM

How does everyone go about treating their new arrivals or imports for parasites?
I'm getting a 10 bag of unsorted hatchlings, first time, and I was wondering how others treat their snakes.

Quarentine is obvious,
but what steps should I take after that?

Thanks.

You should not have to treat CH babies. Just get them early in the season(before their first shed is best). I usually just soak them as soon as they arrive to rehydrate them. I think where CH babies get a bad rap is when people buy the old ragged out ones late in the season that have not been cared for properly for too long. IMO CH are just as good as CB if bought proir to their 1st shed.

Haven't had any new imports, but my new additions get the mite spray in their cage (I just use the equate lice spray), a good soak, and I keep 'em on papertowel until I'm absolutely 100% sure they're healthy and parasite free.

Haven't actually had any parasite problems yet, so either I'm doing it right or I've just been lucky

They can have internal parasites if they havent eaten yet, and if they havent shed yet then they havents eaten yet. Also Mites are not native to africa and you wont se imports from africa with typical black mites, they can have ticks but out of hundreds i have gotten in in the past have never seen a tixk on a baby CH only bush babies or adults.

Yes you are right to a point but some imports from other continents do and plus when they all go to a importers faculty you would be surprised what they can leave there with that they did not arrive with . And I have seen ch baby’s born with internal parasites past on by the mother , may be not the more common ones but parasites all the same .past on threw the blood . Thanks David of DS Reptile Rescue

On extremly rare ocassions it is possible to have eternal parasites passed on but more so unlikley then likley. Also if you are getting the animals direct from an importer that imports only Africa mites are not an issue. Just make sure your buying from a reputable person ...
