OT Tue pic day? D/U warning

rainbowsrus Apr 10, 2007 10:56 AM

Bob sparked another idea in my brain. Pic Monday has been a big hit and a lasting event. Obviously some like yesterday are off the hook while others are blah, That's OK, I still look forward to Mondays.

So, I propose OT pic Tuesday. Don't know if it'll catch on like pic Monday but worth a try. Let's see your OT pics on Tuesdays. While getting the BRB collection pics together and posted on my website, I've also been updating the BCI section so with a little work and sorting..........

The "other half" of my collection:

BCI Male

Dagwood, Albino Pos het stripe 2004

Fudge, CBLT Het Albino

Skittles, Het Coral Albino pos Jungle 2004

York, Albino het anery 2004

Pepper, Abby Male 05Naby15M

Snickers, Salmon possible Jungle 05/17/2005

Reeses, Summit Salmon 05/27/2005 (he thinks he's a BRB, look at those colors)

Heath, Motley M1

Nestle, Motley M2

Fireball, TH Moonglow (he's looking much brighter, need a new pic of him)

Toffee, Anery pos het albino 04/02/2006

Bing, Cherry Salmon M4 05/14/2006

Van, Cherry Salmon M5 05/14/2006

BCI Female

Candy, Pastel CBLT 2003

Cinnamon, Hypo Female 2003

Crystal, DH Snow Orangasm line

Taffy, DH Sunglow (no pic available, busy breeding)

Butterscotch, Abby 05Naby11F

Coral, Basically Boas Coral Albino 2005

Honey, Abby 05OchyJngle10F

Ruby, Burke lipstick line (Ruby) Coral albino 2005

Spirit, Ghost 2005

Tootsie, Anery Het Albino 04/21/2005

Jasmine, Albino Arabesque 05/15/2005

Amber, Super Salmon pos Jungle 05/22/2005

Vanilla, Super Ghost 05/24/2005

Sierra, Albino Pos het anery 5/27/2005

Gypsy, Reverse Stripe 2006

Hershey, Motley F1

Stella, Cherry Salmon F3 05/14/2006

Anne, Cherry Salmon F1 05/14/2006

And YES, all my snakes now have names. My kids were asking me a while back why the BRB's had names and none of the BCI's did. So, I came up with names. Some are duplicated from the BRBs like Amber, Ann/Anne, Ruby, Crystal.....so sue me. Some of the names came easy like Jasmine for my Arabesque Albino and Bing/Van/Stella and Anne for the "Cherry" salmons. For a bunch I used an idea that came from discussions with Aubrey about candy names. So Hershey, Toffee, Skittles etc.

If you pay close attention to the names, within the subspecies and gender, for the most part, each name has unique first two letters. This was done so I can use a shorthand naming process for the babies like SA-PO-01 = SAvannah x POrky baby number 1.

There are some duplicates like Molly and Morticia where there already was a two digit in place and still wanted a specific name. Just like the state abbreviations, they don't all follow the first two letters. So Molly = MO and Morticia = MR.

Dave I'm gonna make a list of my favs

York-OMG!!!! Talk about yellow Dave, just glad you named her with a Y though cuz it is very fitting for her, she is drop dead gorgeous and I don' like albinos to much either

Pepper-I wish my bci looked like that, maybe I should try some photoshop myself jk mine still wouldn't compare even if I could fix it for the better

Reeses- Reeses Peeses is more like it cuz that's what it looks like she has been eating or maybe just the rats you gave her were eating some Reese's Cereal or some creamy Jiff

Nestle- I want a Motley in the next few years and I want one
just like that

Fireball- I love the triple hets and if I didn't have all my available funds devoted to my son I would pick one up from Mike this year cuz some are looking so pink so early

Bing- Dave that is right up my alley man I, this is the one snake I hope you had listed in this post or you would have heard all about it

Cinnamon- probably the most notable snake you got when you post the pics of your snake room cuz i see her at the bottom all big and sexy oh yeah, love her color btw

Coral- needs no explaining with the way she looks

Ruby- that may be the mother of Frank's next purchase with you

Honey- really like her connected dorsal pattern

Jasmine- her color is ridiculous

Amber- she is very nice looking and I hope she makes u lots of supers for you and I mean jungles BABY!!

Gypsy- can't wait to see her color develop on her sides later on

Hershey- a little dark for my perfect Motley but her uniform pattern makes up for everything and some

Stella- when Stella gets her groove back I want my super Dave

Anne- that is the saddles I like on my hypos (I don't have any though lol)

Nice post Dave and keep 'em coming while I wish you luck
Bob

Thanks Bob but still trying to figure out which three didn't make your fav list, all the rest did Guess I've done a good job of being selective with my acquisitions. The hardest part with the BCI morphs is interleaving all the morphs such that they compliment each other and most planned pairings either produce visual morphs or known hets. Those possible hets IMO are harder to sell unless you sell as normals with a possible bonus. Of course, just like the BRB's pairings will change from year to year for several but not all.

Awesome BCI collection Dave, very impressive. I especially like your Summit Salmon and that pair of Abbys. Beautiful.
I don't know how you come up with names for everyone. I gave up on naming years ago. Only my older animals still go by thier names. I used to try to go with "themes" but after awile I just ran out of ideas. Just not creative enough I guess. My first group of BCI were Don Juan, Poncho Via, and Margarita and My first BRB's were Bonnie, Clyde, Ma Barker, and a second male I never did name. My first Caiman was Jesse James to kinda stay with the old bandits theme.
Here are some off topic pic for you. I came across these old photos this morning. I am supposed to be going through old photos for a slide show for my upcoming wedding and got side tracked looking through fishing pictures from a few years ago.
These are from Aug. of 2003. I was bass fishing and walked back to my truck for my camera because I was having a decent morning. Anyway on the way back I noticed the dirt moving right off the side of the trail close to the water. I sat down and watched it and a couple of minutes later these baby snapping turtles started crawling out of what I assume was their burried nest. There were about 25 total. I was suprised how small they were as the adults that I have seen in the same area are about 3 foot from the front to back of the shell.
This was my first time seeing hatchling turtles in the wild and it made for a pretty cool morning since living in Co. we don't have a whole lot of reptiles to see in the wild.

Thanks Milo, Yeah, coming up with 69 names was tough. Many like Hook, Boo, Daisey, Dumbo etc, came from the snake itself. Some pattern that stuck out, Hook has a bulseye pattern on his side with a hook hanging off of it, Boo's first three neck patterns look like BOO, Daisey's second dorsal pattern is shaped like a rubber duck and so on. Sometimes one name spawns others like Hook spawned the whole peter pan series Peter (was sold) Tink and Wendy. Then there was the WC female that had her babies at the importer and in them was a striped hypo. In discussions about naming them, the overall project became "Genesis" Adam (most likely still in Surinam) and Eve. The striped hypo became Genevieve (Gen of Eve) and the other babies were named after members of the Addams family, Gomez, Fester, Morticia etc.

The problem I find with many "themes" is there are plenty of male names but not so many female names. My collection is balanced the other way, many females and not as many males.

Great story on the snappers. I'm sure that's a sight not seen by very many people, baby snappers coming out of their nest.

Thanks for sharing those pics, definately way cool!!

I know exactly what you mean with the female/male names being opposite of ratios that you would want. I too have more females than males. When I was trying to name after old bandits and bank robbers, I pretty much ran out of female names after Bonnie and Ma Barker.
My very first redtail was Don Juan so named because of the little mustache that all redtails have. That is the only one I ever named from appearance. After that I tried to do by groups for a while. Pancho Via and Margarita joined his group with Spanish names. They are now some of my biggest breeders. Margarita gave birth this Feb. but was 40 pounds pre-breeding and is about 10 feet long. Hard to believe she is the same little girl I bought 10 years ago as a yearling.
Now I just refer to them by their locality and/or genetics. Not as fun I know but I figured since they don't come when I call them...

Nice turtle pics. I'm a Coloradan myself. You'd be surprised how many reptiles we have out here.

Awww... what a cute little turtle! It's hard to believe that such a huge and menacing-looking creature can start out so tiny and adorable. What a great find!

yay! one of your snakes is named jasmine, i think that is a great name! there have been times when i wanted to get into regular boas just because their mustaches (sp?) are so cute. OT update: I am almost done with my 125gal vivarium for my subadult female brb. I will post pics when it is up and running.( i had to redo it from last time because she trampled all the plants, i got bigger plants and i hope they will survive)

She was one of the easier ones to name. OK, so I have kids and have watched all the disney movies. She is defiantely one gorgeous snake, the arabesque pattern in an albino is way cool. Thinking her best suitor would be a sunglow male, don't have one of those.....yet!

That is a serious drawback with natural enclosures, No matter how big, still relatively small compared to the jungle. That forces the snake to cruise the same territory over and over again. Very rough on natural plants.

Wow, those are some killer animals. I really like York, Reeses, Ruby, and Amber. OT Tuesday... great idea! Sheesh, Dave, you must have a whole separate house to keep all of your big snakies in!

I love them cherry salmons.. I know they aren't the most expensive morph out there.. but I don't think there are many that can compare w/ looks (pastel albinos maybe.. )
