Lepord Gecko's Poo

Jipjap Apr 11, 2007 11:23 AM

Hi
My Gecko's Poo is quite large recently with a white substance on the top. She is 6 months old but the Poo is solid and looks large for her age.Is this Normal? I am feeding her 4/5 crickets per day. Also im unsure about the temp needed in the tank as many websites and books vary. The temp at the hot end (Tank is 2 1/2 feet long) is in and around 86F (heat lamp on for 12 hours) and at the cooler end (Where the heat mat is located) is around 68-70F. Im pretty new to this type of pet but i want to make sure i am doing everything correct.

Thanks

That sounds normal to me. The white thing on top is the urate. Gecko don't pee in liquid form; they pee is solid. That is what the white thing is.

Thanks. And the temp range? Is this ok? Also i have 1 hide but i plan on buying another to put moss into. Will the gecko instinctively know to go into the moss one when its shedding? I do use Shed aid and this is working but i would rather cover all angles

Temps are to be 85-90g hot side and 70-75 cool side. You shold have 2 hides one for the cool side one for the warm, you also can just use paper towels and spray them to make a humid hide.
What substrate do you use? SHould not be sand, only papertowels, tile, slate, or newspaper, repti carpet, or astroturf.

You should have a dish of pure calcuim in the tank with NO D3 in it. You should have calcuim with d3 and vitamins powders to dust the crix and mealies about 1-2 times weekly.

Heating you should use a UTH and a RED bulb, not a regular bulb and no blue lights. Most of them hurt the leos eyes, as red bulb has no effects on them at all.

Good luck!! Do you have pics? We love pics here!

Now, my geckos all have the urates, but also there is a little liquid, looks slimey actually. But once it dries you would never be able to tell it was there, cause all thats left is the white and brown parts.

Happens w/ all 3. Could just be some sort of lubrication... I dunno.

It's their poop! That's all. The white is yes the urates and the cacluim part of their diet coming back out!

Unless it smells very very funky, it's normal and their is no problem! Nothing to worry about!

Well, I dont exercise the 'smelling poop' practice. But I've never smelled anything while cleaning thier cages.

So I guess it's all good.

Haha...I don't think many intentional try and smell poop. LOL...But sometimes it's a bit overwheliming in smell and that is usually when there is something wrong. In your case, i think you will be fine! Good luck and just keep us posted!

yeah it all sounds good man. i think mine had a case of diarrhea once, and it smells VERY funky, although it was fresh n splatted onto my floor. i think it smelt like a humans, but if you cant smell anything and its all solid, it sounds fine to me ^^
