New rat rack pics

jonathan-m Apr 11, 2007 09:52 PM

Hi all,
Just thought I would share a few pics of my newest rat rack. each tub has 3 to 4 females and one male

My favorite, uglliest little residents:

So far this rack is working well for me, and the rats (and the monitors!), so I think I'm going to build another one just like this. The only thing I will do differently next time is I will be using heavy table busing bins I found at sams club instead of these clear ones.

Hi Jon!
Hairless rats are not good producer, clutch are little and their baby also are little. But your rack look good.
Just my opinion.

yeah, Your right about the small litters. I just had a female drop only five babies as her full litter. They may not be great producers, but they are fun to have around. I mostly just keep them as a novelty, so I don't mind having them take up one of my bins.

right now I am crossing the hairless ones with some of my solid blacks. I figure that if I take the babies from two separate black/hairless rat crossings and breed them two each other I may get some hairless rats again with more diverse blood (I'm really hoping to be able to make hairless, black skinned rats too!)

I have a bunch of hairless rats. They eat much more then furred rats. I have dwarf nudes and dumbo nudes also. I am working on dwarf dumbo nudes. I weaned my first black dumbo nube female the other day. All black skin, she is so cute. I don't have any dwarf males though. I have them in some litters but don't keep them because I have too many boys as is and no more room. I do not currently breed my nudes. All the nudes I have have come from furred parents. Rat genetics are hard to figure out if you don't know the liniage. The more inbred they are, the more likely they are to have a rainbow of pups. Mice too. Your pics didn't come through on my computer. What other colors do you have? Any rexes or dumbos?

I just got my delivery from Rodentpro.com. 200 mice, 75 chicks and 9 guineas for the redtail. 150.00 shipped. If I run out quick I may copy your racks and do the rat thing again.
