Gravid collared not eating

kellybee Apr 12, 2007 02:57 AM

I counted 23 days from when she turned red, because I didnt actually see any mating (this is the girl that beats on Arthur when he gets on her nerves). I figured I would then know at least a MINIMUM date, this being the 18th from memory.

She hasnt eaten anything for quite some time (at least I havent SEEN her eat), maybe a week or just under. She doesnt look any fatter than elvis did when she was due, but she is that weird shape they go when they puff up when they feel threatened.

Her hips are starting to protrude a little, and the base of her tail is looking a little on the thin side. I've heard of lizards not eating for a week before they are due, but she is not showing signs of preparing to lay, other than lack of appetite

Should I be worried, or do you think its normal? I wouldnt worry, but if she does lay after the 18th, it will be almost a fortnight since she last ate anything

I have had some go for over a week. My Chia, the female vestigium, went 10 days , almost half her time with out eating. So I make sure she gets plenty in the first 2 weeks.

The reason they stop is the eggs fill them, and there is no room for the food. I do not think I would worry yet Kelly. But ya always keep your eye on the Mom's to be, lol

I just wondered, though like I said, she could be eating for all I know, maybe in the daytime when I am out. Nothing else has changed, she is still the first one out of bed and still runs around after the lights are out......weirdo, lol

Sounds like me, as far as up in the morning and still running around after lights out! LOL "NIGHT OWL"

... and tho she's still thin, she's doing fine. She layed her eggs 7-10 days after she stopped eating, and she had 6 eggs. Her hips were really showing, too, but she's alright. Yours will be OK - it is a bit nerve-wracking for awhile! I think it's their "nesting" phase - humans just clean and clean and do stuff for a few days to a week or so before labor, so I think that's the collareds' way of doing that (some do, some don't, just like two-leggers). Get ready! The eggs should be here within a week, probably!

I just saw her looking longingly at a hopper, like she desperately wanted to eat it, I almost got a lump in my throat, the poor girl
