kaiser and the girls

jeune18 Apr 12, 2007 07:44 AM

eve, two of the girls last season had blister disease and it would start in their back armpits and spread across their stomachs. prior to both times each girl was given baytril injections. dr stahl said once that he thought baytril was too acidic for collared skin, anyway, i am not sure if it was germs or if it was caused by me or the vet. no one has had it since then and i don't plan on giving baytril injections anytime soon.

kaiser on the other hand had blisters at first by his ear and a couple on his neck/shoulder on the same side. i put silvadine on them until he could get to the vet and most of them reduced in size. he went to the vet and stayed a few days and he was put on tribrissen (sp?) and continued with the silvadine. the day after i got him back the blisters were back and bigger. the next day they had taken over his whole neck and shoulders on both sides, monday the blisters were really weepy, monday night the blisters were bleeding and tuesday morning he was sitting in a pool of blood and it pretty much looked like his skin just fell off.

it doesn't seem like it was the same two things at all. maybe it was but it definitely hit kaiser in a different way

NASTY, it just advances into different stages Vonnie, it starts small, and very quickly can turn into big blisters that just open, leaving the flesh open and bleeding, the infection spreads fast and internally also, and causes a blood infection, and soon death.

So terrible that they had that. I'm really sorry about Kaiser.

Do the girls you have left have any signs of anything right now?

knock on wood, the only thing wrong with anyone is that lucia still doesn't walk right but she never will again. everyone else is healthy that i know of, definitely jolly and midge. luc scuttles around and has gotten good at hunting although i still feed her worms outside the cage since her fat sisters can hunt well.

other than scarring, there are no blisters or anything. plus kaiser lived alone

Vonnie, you say he lived alone, never was with the girls since they originally got sick? Ever with them at all or come into contact with anything from them?

You touched them, maybe you touched him right after?? How long has it been since the girls had it and when he got it?

Just curious about all of this. It's important to try and keep track of it all, it sure is DEADLY.

the last girl to have had blister disease was midge like last july. once everyone started getting sick i had them sectioned off into previously sick, sick and never sick.

kaiser was the only one who never got sick last year so he was alone and since he was cranky by the time i tried to put him back in with the girls he attacked them all.

so i would say in february he was in their cage for about 4 minutes, thrashing about to the point that i had to get a towel to pick him up, such a freak (i miss him)

since lucia had/has her kidney problems i think that was october, everyone has been fine. all winter long when it was cold, they were fine. as soon as spring hits, kaiser went down.
