Weird lil lizzy...

rixavi Apr 12, 2007 11:10 AM

Hey guys,

Lizzy has been acting really really oddly. Is it normal for collareds to be nocturnal? I typically give him 10-12 hours of day, usually at the exact same time every day. But he ends up sleeping for the first 3-4 hours and is up long past the time the lights go out. Again by 3-4 hours. Should I change his schedule around? Like bump the time I turn the lights on by that amount of time?

Also, any ideas on how to stop him from trying to burrow through the glass? I put up a background of a desert theme but that just makes him think there are more rocks for him to get to and he jumps like crazy trying to get on them :P

Thanks!

Rick my collareds did the glass dance for the first six months I had them, and my water dragons still do, tinted film is said to work, and mine jump for anything high up, if the tank is glass on all sides, you could try covering the back and sides with something like paper, or do what I did and glue in some shelves for him to jump up on. I used aquarium sealant but I had to remove the lizards for 48 hours whilst it set, because it stinks to high heaven. They seem happy to perch up there, and dont do the glass dancing anymore, they do seem to try to scramble up the backdrop at times, but I think its more them wanting to sit on the UV strip than anything else, eventually they give up and jump up on the ledges

Well I should be getting him placed in his new palace in a couple of days... maybe a week. It's got mostly wood sides so that should nip it in the bud. If I set up a separate section for feeding, how long do you guys usually leave your collareds in there? So the crickets/wormies don't contaminate the main portion, I've put tile and a wall separating it down that I can close over or leave open depending on how I like it.

wow, talk about high tech, modern liveing, lol. Sounds cool !!

Mine dont eat crickets, mealworms and 3 out of 5 dont like waxies either (strange creatures), so I have to feed mine 1.5" locusts, they neither eat my lizards, or hide in small crevices, have you a photo? It sounds perfect

Maybe silkworms? How are they for healthy eating? Are they good for moisture content? I know a stable diet of crickets with some misc others thrown in seems to be the norm but...

Locusts?!? Heck I live in bitter cold Canada, they wouldn't last a second I wouldn't even know where to get those critters. And truth be told, I don't blame him for not eating crickets... they're annoying little buggers!

He also has a dislike for butter worms. Picky!

When I carve some more holes out of his house I'll take some more pics and upload them Maybe I'll even post a how to lol... it's only cost me around $40 CDN so far (but I didn't get the glass yet! and I had the tools already hehe). Most of that was paint/sealer. The wood here is really cheap Gotta love having alot of forests and very little population.
