I have quite a bit of the "carefresh" brand rodent bedding. I use it for my mice and occasionally I fill a hide part way and dampen it to aid in shedding.
What do you guys think of attempting to use this in nesting boxes for egg laying?

I use Care-Fresh as a general bedding for my snakes. I use dampened moss for an egg-laying substrate. Other than the mold issue, I don't see a reason why you couldn't use it for a nesting material, assuming you dampened it enough to prevent the eggs from desiccating.
good luck
