Hey everyone my CRB is about a year old now and I've been looking to get her a new viv. Right now she's in a 20 gallon long. I'm wandering how big the next one I get should to last her the rest of her life. Thanks for any advice

Hey Tim, I'd go with something around 4 - 6 square feet of floor space. I'd also get away from a fish tank, IMO much easier to control the environment in a cage vs glass tank.

Thanks for the reply. I've been looking into either making a new viv or buying one. Which would you recommend, and if it's buying one which brand would you suggest?
Depends a little on where your keeping it. If you have a dedicated herp room that stays warm, can't go wrong with on=e of the plastic cages like made by Boaphile. I have several and they all work great. If however you are putting the cage in a cooler location, IMO, the plastic cages might not have enough thermal mass and could get cold and/or hot spots. For that situation I'd go with a 3/4" wood product, I've made cages from 3/4" oak plywood and they look great.

very smart indeed, plastic tends to get "old" and harder to clean the chalkie messes they love to leave behind for us!!

And as much as I want or need to scrub, I still don't leave gouges. The surface does get scuffed up over time but still cleans up just fine.

That means more keepers for that BAD MAN!!!! Yeah I'm jealous

Bob
You should be happy, the "bad man" is pretty much out of room for keepers. Each keeper bumps another individual out of the program.

well if you have a GREAT year I think you should keep as many as you need to "bump" Diablo and let me procure him, to be honest it is becoming apparent that you have "greed" issues and have too many keeper Brazilians in your collection. Sharing the wealth would be good for the humanitarian side of your heart, as Bob stated, I am somewhat handicapped and dimwitted and us special people could use every opportunity to brighten our day, what would Diablo do for me you ask? Well such a "stellar" example of a Brazilian rainbow boa would brighten my dim lighted capacitors. It would be doing your part to help heighten the intellectual capacity of the gene pool! Save the Whales Dave, save the whales!!!!!

Seeing as she's my only snake, currently, I keep her in my bedroom. Unfortunately the temperature fluctuates with my roommates playing with the thermostat so it sounds like I should get a wood viv. Thanks for the help.
The thicker walls with significantly more thermal mass will buffer the outside temp fluctuations much better. That and OF COURSE, a good thermostat and you should be all set!!

I would go with a 4 foot Boaphile or Vision , I would have said neodesha for humidity reasons, but the Boaphile and Visions are GREAT cages that hold humidity well and give ample security compared to a larger type of all glass tank, this is due to the subdued lighting because of the solid sides not letting all the room light inside the viv. Well, unless your handy like Dave then you could build one. See this post below I linked to....

I am also very happy with my showcase cage... not as great for humidity, but very functional!

Funny you should mention showcase cages, I work for Costco Wholesale and they where remodeling and they where going to throw out all their jewelry showcases and I asked if I could have them, instead of them wasting money disposing of them, and they gave all of them to me, slight renovations and they are now enclosures....

That's awesome! How big are they? And glass on 3 sides and mirror on the 4th...
My "Showcase Cage" is of a different type... showcasecages.com
I specifically bought it due to the area for the heat lamp, heat pad and flourescent light (none of which can be seen from the front).

4' by 2' by 14" and 6' by 2' by 14" also have tall ones as high as 6' tall, good for arboreal species
