Heat mat temps?

Heat Apr 12, 2007 09:15 PM

I have a 10-20 gallon heat mat under my 32 Qt. tub. There are currently aspen shavings in there too.

So, when I take various temps throughout the tub, should I point the gun directly at the spot on the floor of the tub where the heat mat is?

What is the highest temp it should get for the "hotspot" in this instance?

Thanks!

Point your temp gun/thermo right at the floor of the tank, where snakey spends the vast majority of his life.

Heat pads get EXTREMELY hot ... if you have an accurate temperature reader, like a temp gun or digital thermometer, don't be surprised at all to see temps exceeding 110F.

Put a thermostat or rheostat (as simple as a light dimmer) on all your heating devices.

I have all my matts plugged into the BAH t-stat or the rheostat.

I was completely shocked to see such high temps at the hot spot.

I turned my dimmers down b/c I got nervous.

I use a heat temp gun.

Yes point it at the spot where the heat is under. I have mine with the probe just under the substrate and I have it set for 85. It is right on.
