A friend of mine is into bugs as well as herps. All kinds. Beetles, walking sticks, butterflies, moths and arachnids. Puts out bug lights on right-of-ways for the beetles and moths, collects walking sticks from the road and walks cuts for the rest. Would that still be legal under this new law? Are bugs considered wild animals?

"Are bugs considered wild animals?"

I was kind of curious about this too? Does texas define "animal" as just vertebrates? or are inverts included as well?

Collecting bugs/inverts has been legal as far as I know. But, many people have used the "I'm only collecting bugs" excuse as a cover for their shady herp collecting practices to avoid the need to purchase a license and collect from the roadside when we were told we could not. It's an old tactic when encountered by L.E. and it doesn't work too well anymore.
