Really Big Veileds

stevereecy Apr 13, 2007 01:27 PM

Since I'm asking questions today, here's one I'm curious about. I know that the books talk about male veileds growing as large as 24-inches in length. Wondering if anyone out there has a monster that big, or larger. Anyone seen one larger than that? What about females? How about weight measurements?

Just curious,

Steve

I had one female that was as big as the average male...much bigger than any other female I ever had.

Captive bred specimens seldom reach that size. Three to four years ago I bought a wild caught female from a group that came in. There were several males in that group in the 22 to 25 inch range. I had a large CB male that passed on last year. He was 21 1/2 inches and 300 grams. I'll have some of his babies hatching later this summer.

Some of the very early captive generations were about that size. My first veiled back in 1994 was about 21" TL. But, as breeders began selecting for color and got careless about inbreeding many bloodlines got smaller.
