Park trip pics

KenCasstevens Apr 13, 2007 03:44 PM

I haven't had much forum time lately because of work, but a couple days ago I took off, and spent a few hours in one of the two big state parks around here- Shelby Farms. I was hoping to get a few snake pics, but 4 hours, and about 300 overturned logs, and rocks later I didn't see one. We had some unexpected freezing weather about a week ago, and I guess they went back underground. I did manage to get some close up pics of a buffalo from the parks small herd that was near the fence, a little frog, a couple turtles, and a couple cool pics of the scenery. Guess I'll wait a couple weeks, and try again for the snakes. I think the next time I'll go to the other park- Shelby Forrest. It's a whole lot bigger, and there are a bunch of secluded hiking trails through the woods there. Even a couple cool nice sized waterfalls. It's been a few years since I've been there, but I think I'm gonna revisit soon. Hope you enjoy the pics.

Mostly it was just nice to get away for a few hours by myself, and relax. I don't think people do enough of that. I know I don't. Have a nice day.

Thanks. Here in Elvis land we are unseasonably cool today with a high in the 50s, and a low in the 40s, but this comming week we'll get warmer every day hitting 80 by the end of the week. It was about 65 the day I took the pics.

Very nice pictures. While the bison are cool, I admit I like the frog and the turtles best. Not to mention the beautiful GREEN scenery. I'm envious -- here in Pennsylvania we are still waiting for spring to arrive. It's the middle of April and we're expecting snow, sleet, and rain with high winds tomorrow. Magnolia blooms have been fried by frost and trees are still leafless. Very odd weather, but it goes to show that global warming does NOT mean warmer weather everywhere all the time. When I finally see a basking garter snake I'll know spring has truly arrived . . .

I agree that getting out in natural settings by myself is time well spent. A great place to see things in better perspective. Ever get the feeling that as time passes work is cutting more and more into your time for more important things?

Thanks. It was a very soothing afternoon. I know what you mean, and with three jobs kicking my tush right now I valued that time even more. Hopefully I'll get out again soon.

Lets make plans to go when it warms up, I really want to see the buffalo and we might have a better chance to see more reptiles. I still can't beleive it is half way through April and we are seeing this cold of temps.
Great pic's Ken.
